What: Native Plant Sale
Where: Meadowood Nursery

The Manada Conservancy's Fall Native Plant Sale will be held at Meadowood Nursery on September 20, 2008 from 9:00-2:00. There are no pre-orders for our Fall sale. Come and browse our many varieties of perennials, woody plants, trees and woodland offerings. This year's theme is "Gardening for Nature". You may speak with our Gardening for Nature consultant, Ann Bodling, and pick up some free material to guide you in your purchase decisions. Butterfly garden? Hummingbird Garden? Rain Garden? Plant lists are available.

What: A Forest Story
Where: Hershey Public Library, Cocoa Avenue, Hershey

This program will chronicle the history of the forests of south central Pennsylvania up to the present time. Forest ecology and the changes in forest structure that have taken place starting in the latter part of the twentieth century will be explained with emphasis on the major impact that white tail deer are having on our forests today.

Speaker: Dr. Gene Wingert - Instructor of Environmental Science, Dickinson College and Harrisburg Area Community College.

Dr. Wingert taught Biology and Biochemistry at Cumberland-Valley High School for 35 years. He has instructed a variety of biology courses at Harrisburg Area Community College since 1981 and has instructed Environmental Science at Dickinson College since 1991. He has been active in several environmental causes and has published a key to trees in the Harrisburg Area and also a book on the notable trees of Cumberland County.

What: The Amazing World of Bats
Where: Hershey Public Library, Cocoa Avenue, Hershey

The world of bats is often thought of as dark, mysterious and sometimes even frightening. However, these amazing animals play a unique role, helping people and the environment in a variety of ways from pollination to insect control. Join us to explore to the world of bats and gain a glimpse of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's research and management of these exciting mammals.

Speaker: Theresa Alberici – Chief of the Conservation Education and Outreach Division of the Pennsylvania Game Commission and coordinator of Project WILD for Pennsylvania.

Ms. Alberici has worked with the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s bat biologist and Bat Conservation International biologist to develop and conduct Bat workshops for teachers throughout the state.
